I originally developed the Book 1 pattern while making several custom pairs for a long-term client of mine.

One of those pairs actually had an opportunity to get in front of Devin Booker, but shipping delays meant they arrived one day too late — I was gutted!

While making several colourways from the pattern, I decided to take one in a completely different direction and construct it using three types of vegetable-tanned leather.

This pair has remained in my archive at the completed upper stage and will now be finished for its new owner.

Three different vegetable-tanned leathers are used across the upper, creating subtle differences in tone, grain and texture. Each will patina at a different rate as the shoes are worn, allowing the appearance of the pair to continue evolving over time.

A layered leather pull tab wraps around the heel, referencing the pages of a book, and is finished with CHAPTER ONE detailing.

The upper will be completed with a cream/aged-cream Book 1 donor sole.
